Update.

November 29, 2010

Whew, you know life is busy when you have 4 blog post drafts started, but none finished. I can’t seem to spend much time on the computer lately, as Lucas is always tugging at my arm saying “Get off!” So, I’ve been trying to turn the computer off during the day, and spending more time cooking, cleaning, and playing. I’ve become a master at building train tracks for Lucas, and cleaning up his messes that he leaves through out the house of cars, trucks, blocks, trains, colours (crayons and paper). We are trying to teach him to clean up one thing before proceeding to the next, but that is difficult when his attention span is still so short and he only plays a specific toy for 10 minutes or so. Lucas continues to talk up a storm and has started using words like “Otherwise, maybe, probably” He also loves to pretend he knows how to tell time and is frequently saying “3:24, its too early”. His imagination has grown immensely these past few weeks too. He pretends his food is different objects: boats, airplanes. And he loves to play tricks. Yesterday I asked him to get his Sunday shoes, and he said “There right here” while holding his empty hands towards me. I said “Okay, put them on” and he responded “I’m tricking you!” What a goof.

So I’ve avoided this statement in the last few weeks unsure of when it would really come, however, I’m feeling pretty confident is saying Lucas is (for the most part) potty trained. In the past 2 weeks, he has had only 2 accidents (minus after naps…but we’re working on that, and of course bedtime). Potty training is exhausting, and is no easy venture. For a while there, it seemed it would be easier to head back to diapers, but we persisted and more often than not Lucas lets us know he has to go on his own, without even being prompted. He still gets rewarded with little candies or M&M’s whenever he goes.

Caleb is such a happy little guy. He has really found his voice and loves to let out baby shrieks as he plays in his jumperoo, or play mat. He is becoming so aware of everything around him. He loves to watch Lucas play toys, and has started getting upset when it’s time for bed, or he is left in a room on his own. As happy and content as he is, he is starting to show he has a quick little temper that flares when he is upset. He is still super easy to calm down and they usually only last a few seconds. He also seems to be developing his first cold. His eyes are watery, and his nose is running…poor guy, hopefully it clears up real soon.

Harold is swamped at work. He has been starting early, and working late. He is also making almost weekly trips to Penticton, which makes him even busier because he spends a lot of his day traveling. He’s happy though and continues to love his job. What a blessing!

I’m starting to feel the real effects of having two kids. Caleb is needing more attention as he gets older, and as he gets heavier in his car seat, it’s more and more difficult to pack up the kids and get out of the house without it taking forever just to get loaded into the van. I’m much more content to just stay home and run my errands in the evening when Harold is home. I’ve also taken on some shifts at Ritz Catering through the Christmas season. It feels good to get out of the house and make some extra cash, although it is still so hard to leave the kiddies.

For those who haven’t seen my new do, I now have brown hair. For real!

We heading into a very busy month, prepping for Christmas, visiting with family, a mini holiday up to Silver Star, and Christmas baking and decorating. I’m looking forward to starting some new family traditions now that Lucas is starting to understand and appreciate those things. It’s going to be a fun month.

Hey! Thanks for the update! Way to go with Lucas’ potty training and not giving up. It sure does sound like a lot of work. I’ve bought a toddler seat for our toilet hoping it will get Jayden interested. We’ll see 🙂
